Why a web app works better than a download

Most plant identification apps live in the App Store or Google Play. That means a download, an account, and usually a paywall after your first few free IDs. Snap Plant takes a different approach.

  • No install. Open your browser, go to snap-plant.com, upload a photo. Done. Nothing lands on your phone's storage.
  • No account. Your photo is processed by AI and never stored. No email, no password, no data trail.
  • No paywall. Most plant ID apps give you 5-10 free IDs then charge $20 to $30 per year. Snap Plant has no paid tier.
  • Always up to date. Web apps update on the server, not through your app store. You always have the latest version without doing anything.
  • Works everywhere. iPhone, Android, tablet, or laptop. Any browser, any operating system.

How to get the most accurate ID

The AI reads leaf shape, color, growth pattern, and texture. A few tips make a real difference:

  1. Shoot in natural light. Overexposed flash photos flatten the color and texture the AI needs.
  2. Frame the whole plant. Habit (how it grows) is a major clue for a lot of species.
  3. Then take a leaf close-up. Show the underside, the edges, and the veins. One clear leaf image can be decisive.
  4. If it is flowering, include the flower. Blooms narrow the field dramatically for species that look similar as foliage.
